Balfour Beatty Selected To Construct East Hall Expansion At Hong Kong Airport

16 May 2002

Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction and services group, announces today that its large multi-disciplinary projects business, Balfour Beatty Major Projects, has been awarded the HK$420 million (£38 million) Hong Kong Airport Contract 312 by the Hong Kong Airport Authority.

The project, which involves construction of the East Hall expansion structures and the reconfiguration of the retail space in the existing departure hall, is the third contract secured by Balfour Beatty from the Airport Authority in the past nine months.

Bruce Benjamin, Head of Projects, Airport Authority, Hong Kong, said today: “We are very pleased to have awarded the contract for the East Hall works to the Balfour Beatty Group. It continues the significant contribution by Balfour Beatty to the construction of the Hong Kong International Airport. This project is technically complex and in the operational heart of the passenger terminal building. However, with the high level of management, commitment to safety and project partnering, we are confident of its successful outcome.”

Balfour Beatty was part of a joint venture which was responsible for the construction of the terminal building for the new Chek Lap Kok Airport in a contract worth over £800 million, which was completed in 1998.
