Balfour Beatty is the leading UK supplier of power transmission and distribution networks to the international power supply industry. Major customers include Scottish Power, National Grid, Northern Electric and PLN, Indonesia's major utilities provider.
Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions is a UK leader in the design, construction, maintenance and supply of overhead transmission lines and underground cabling. In March 2007, the company was awarded the £550m five-year contract to upgrade and develop National Grid's electricity transmission network in the eastern half of England, working in conjunction with Balfour Beatty Management.
Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions also has an international presence, with overseas project offices in Indonesia, the Philippines and Hong Kong. In Australia, it is developing the overhead transmission infrastructure in Queensland for Powerlink Queensland, in joint venture with United Group Infrastructure of Australia.
Through our investment business, Balfour Beatty Capital, we are a shareholder in Barking Power Ltd, the company that built, equipped, owns and operates Barking Power Station in east London. We are also a shareholder in Powerlink and Power Asset Development Company (PADCO). Powerlink is responsible for the distribution of high-voltage electricity supplies to London Underground's 270 stations and more than 400km of track.
Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering and Balfour Kilpatrick have been involved in the design, construction and equipping of power stations of all types - from nuclear through to gas fired, oil, coal, wind and hydro-powered.
