Following entry into the UK building market in the 1970s, Balfour Beatty Construction now has an annual turnover approaching £1 billion. The business operates from four regional centres based in Edinburgh, Sale (near Manchester), Bristol and London. The business includes Balfour Beatty Refurbishment, a specialist company dedicated to renovation and refurbishment works for both public and private sector clients throughout the Greater London area. Established over 15 years ago, works vary from residential improvements within the social housing sector to internal refurbishment of commercial premises.
In August 2007, the business acquired Cowlin, the leading regional contractor based in the South West of England. It has wide sector coverage with particular expertise in education, healthcare, leisure, residential, commercial and industrial property. Many of its projects are done through long-term frameworks and partnership arrangements.
The company provides capability in traditional, design and build and partner contracting. It is also experienced in government inspired procurement routes, such as Public Private Partnerships (PPP), Prime, the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative, LIFT and Procure 21.
