Balfour Beatty Corporate Responsibility Report 2006

main content

Health screening

In the UK, 96% of operating companies recorded occupational health screening during 2006.

In total 4,421 UK employees received occupational health screening in 2006, 6% more than in 2005.  Of those screened, 4.4% were referred for further medical examination and 3.6% subsequently had their duties restricted.

Some major projects employ resident occupational health nurses to carry out pre employment screening, ongoing health screening and general health promotion.

Balfour Beatty Construction’s Bassetlaw Schools project participated in the “Constructing Better Health” pilot programme with its subcontractors.

Screening is also conducted in our European businesses and Malaysia, but this is less common in some other parts of the world.

Across the group, 5,233 employees received occupational health screening in 2006. Almost 4% of the workforce screened had their duties restricted.
