Our impacts on local communities

All of our major projects have a dedicated community relations team. On large schemes, this team arranges exhibitions for local residents and interested parties ahead of work beginning. Newsletters and letter drops are then used to keep people up to date on key project milestones and potential disturbance.

Engaging with Houndshill Shopping Centre stakeholders

Group of men smiling to the cameraThe Houndshill Shopping Centre is a flagship regeneration project as part of the revitalisation of Blackpool, following years of under-investment and decline in the town. As the first major construction project in the town centre for some time, it is under close scrutiny from the local community, including local residents, tenants, businesses and others.

Key stakeholders are also offered direct access to projects and when necessary, we liaise with local emergency services and the police, including setting-up help lines.

Arts for Health

Visitor in hospital as part of the Arts for Health schemeConsort Healthcare's first Arts for Health programme was launched to provide an opportunity for all University Hospital of North Durham (UHND) employees, patients and visitors to spend time together, engage in arts activities and to generate a discussion amongst health professionals about the benefits of arts in the healthcare setting.

Many of our projects include regular visits to schools and local institutions. One of the benefits we can provide is employment on project sites to local people, as well as educating them about opportunities in the construction industry, part of Building Better Lives for further information.

Getting into construction

In Manchester, Balfour Beatty Construction's Learning Hub, a demountable facility, is aiming to significantly increase the number of young people and adults who are able to enter the construction industry with a qualification and site experience.
